Heather Desiree grew up in Harpswell, Maine. She has lived in and visited many places from Germany to Texas, Hawaii to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Heather returned to Cundy’s Harbor, Maine, the touchstone of her soul, to make her home with her three children in 1999.
Through her life experiences, Heather Desiree has honed her insight in the relationship of deep emotion with shape and the special relationship an object creates. Each sculpture contains the essence of movement within the confines of solid matter. She embraces the joys of life while not diminishing the reality of its pain. This attitude is the foundation of all her work. Heather’s hope is that her works of art, touches an inner cord of truth and simplicity in the viewer. Each piece works on the principal that less is more, simple lines, subtle and perhaps exaggerated shape to emphasize the impact; poetry.
Ms. Desiree remembers “playing” clay as early as the age of four using the materials at hand, modeling clay and native clay found at the shore of her family home. The artist’s formal studies of sculpture began at Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville, New York) in 1979 under the tutelage of Mary Miss and Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, New York) in 1980 with Earl Pardon. She graduated with a BA in Geology in 1983. She continues her studies, developing new interest and expanding her interests.
In recent years, Heather has shown her works in a number of local galleries and art groups; The A Gallery, The Otherside Artists, Harpswell Town Office, The Chocolate Church, and Sebascodegan Artists, to name a few. Currently, Heather is the curator for the Sebascodegan Artists. She spent four years actively participating on the board and showed with the Visual Arts Alliance of Houston, Texas ending in 1999.
